Dr. Georgeann Brown, anxiety counselor in Lexington, KY

Georgeann Brown, Ph.D.

Hello! My name is Georgeann, and I’m a licensed psychologist in Lexington, KY who specializes in counseling for anxiety, stress, and depression.

We all feel stress at times, but perhaps your stress level no longer feels manageable and feels like it is negatively impacting multiple areas of your life. Anxiety can be a more long-term, severe reaction to a stressful situation. Whether it is a current or past situation triggering worry and anxiety, I understand the many ways in which anxiety can affect you.

Maybe you are over-focused on a problem and cannot stop feeling worried, or maybe you are having a physical reaction to stress, such as a rapid heart rate, muscle tension, sleeping problems, or panic attacks. Perhaps you are having difficulty with a past traumatic experience. You may notice that you’re more irritable and anxiety is interfering with your relationships, your family life, your work, and your peace of mind. You may experience that some of the ways you have previously coped with anxiety are no longer working and you strive to figure out a better way forward.

I love working with clients collaboratively and have over 19 years of experience in the field. Every client has a unique perspective and situation, and there is no “one size fits all” in therapy. When working with me, I provide a safe space where we can take a look at the factors affecting your stress and anxiety. I will work with you to understand your unique situation and help you reach your treatment goals. I can teach self-compassion, provide psycho-education about anxiety, and equip you with evidence-based strategies to reduce anxiety, depression, and develop coping skills for stress relief. I can also guide you in the process of setting healthier boundaries and improving communication/interpersonal skills. I look forward to tailoring a therapy experience that meets your needs and situation.

Clients that have worked with me in the past have described some of the following benefits:

• Feeling markedly less stressed and anxious

• Understanding the causes of anxiety

• Responding differently to anxiety symptoms

• Utilizing positive coping skills for dealing with anxiety

• Feeling more equipped to deal with stressors

• Feeling more in control of their thoughts and behaviors
