May is Mental Health Awareness Month

True North Counseling and Development wants to help you celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month.

Why celebrate?

Because good mental health provides a foundation for living lives with the following characteristics:

  • Stability

  • Self-awareness

  • Compassion

  • Emotional capacity to help yourself and others

  • Relaxed, energetic body and mind

  • Sound, regenerative sleep

  • Good choices in what you consume:

    • Eating well

    • Drinking moderately if at all

    • Being conscientious about the kind of information you absorb

      • Information from reputable, grounded sources

      • Balance of entertainment sources

        • Not too much Tik Tok!

  • Spending time in a variety of healthy environments

    • Inside and outside

    • Urban and rural

  • Engaging with other healthy people

    • If possible, lending support to unhealthy people

    • Setting boundaries with unhealthy, toxic people

  • Enjoying a healthy work/life rhythm


If you are checking off most of the boxes above, choose one of your favorite activities, one or two of your favorite people, a time you can focus on enjoyment without distraction, and show yourself a good time for an hour or two, or three or four. 


If you are having problems with 3-4 of the boxes, treat yourself to an initial consultation with one of our counselors to discuss what it might take to tune up the areas you are having problems with. 


Remember, you deserve to live a life of health in all its forms. You will benefit in so many ways, and the people in your life will benefit as well.
